TMA Salutes Muslims


 
The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) on Thursday commended the Muslim Community for going through the period of Ramadan successfully but cautioned that the celebration should in moderation conscious of the COVID-19 pandemic and its restrictions.
The TMA said, “let us concentrate the activities in the various local Mosques amidst COVID-19 preventive measures”.
The TMA also appealed to the Muslim community that the usual celebrations of Eid al Fitr that was marked by mass gatherings at parks and squares should be moderated due to restrictions on social gatherings.
Mr Frank Asante, TMA Public Relations Officer in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Tema, explained that the Muslim leadership in a security meeting with the TMA, has assured the Assembly that they would ensure strict enforcement of the protocols in the various Mosques to avoid any future repercussions. ....

Independence Day without march past

For the first time in decades Ghana will mark its Independence Day anniversary without the traditional march past of the security services and selected schools at the national, regional and district levels.
It is because the President has suspended the mounting of parades as part of activities to mark Ghana’s 64th Independence Day celebration.
This situation has been brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to observe the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Ghana Health Service (GHS) prescribed safety protocols which include social distancing.
The government’s directive to the Ghana Education Service (GES) on February 11 stated that it was in line with measures put in place by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo himself to avoid large gatherings as the country continued to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. ....

Tema Losing Its Greenbelt To Encroachers


 
Tema, Ghana’s most planned city, being the heart of the country’s development, at the onset of the country’s independence is gradually losing its pride due to indiscriminate development and encroachment within the Metropolis over the past few years.
Ghana News Agency Tema Team observatory tour discovered that the open stretch of land earmarked as greenbelts within the Metropolis to prevent neighbouring communities from merging into one another has been engulfed by industrialist, commercial unit owners and business centers.
Portions of the stretch, which initially served as playgrounds and recreation for the communities, have also been encroached upon by private developers who have erupted permanent structures on it. ....
