Alarming increase in phone and computer scams, according to Westport garda

A Mayo Garda has described as alarming the number of people who are falling victim to scams, on a daily basis.
Recent scams have involved people pretending to be from An Garda Siochana, Social Welfare, banks, delivery companies and other businesses.
Gardai say this type of fraud has increased fivefold this month, compared to the same month in 2019, and are urging the public never to give out personal information over the phone or by text or email.
Speaking with Teresa O Malley, Garda Tony McCabe of Westport Garda Station said there s been an alarming increase recently in this type of crime. ....
