Peter Owen, the owner of Richmond-based Eyebright The Country Store, said demand for real trees on his 0.4-hectare plantation was “resoundingly up” in 2020.
The first day of sales was “hell”, with demand three times more than his systems had prepared for, he said.
“I had people waiting for over an hour, which was totally unsatisfactory. Due to the demand, basically cars were turning up well before the 8am opening of the plantation and I spent the next four hours processing and people [were] getting unhappy.”
Owen conceded that because of the droughts of two previous summers, the quality and quantity available was down on expectations. ....
