The Uganda government recently raised the insurance cover on deposits in financial institutions from Shs 3 million to Shs 10 million. This concerns all types of accounts: savings, current and fixed deposit.
The Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda (DPF) is the government agency charged with insuring the safety of customers’ deposits in financial institutions.
The change was made in the financial year 2019/2020. This led to a wider catchment net that now fully covers 98 percent of the accounts in the concerned financial institutions. DPF insures depositors’ finances in three categories of deposit-taking financial institutions regulated by Bank of Uganda. These are commercial banks, credit institutions and microfinance deposit-taking institutions (MDIs). ....

The Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda (DPF), which is also referred to as the Fund, was established as a separate legal entity following the enactment of the Financial Institutions (Amended) Act, 2016. Prior to this, DPF was managed by Bank of Uganda.

Job Summary: The Head Investments will direct all aspects of the Fund’s investment programs including research, evaluation and selection of investment vehicles and aligning investment selections with the Fund’s goals and risk tolerance.

Uganda Timber Growers Association (UTGA), an organisation of commercial tree growers, has embarked on a campaign to see everyone plants trees.
This was stated by Solomon Osewe Oketcho after his appointment as UTGA’s new board chairman for 2021 to 2023; the appointment is renewable. Oketcho was elected by the annual general meeting of the assembly sitting at Silver Springs hotel, Bugolobi on March 18, 2021; he replaces Dr Kiremire Noreda Bashabe.
