Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday inaugurated a ‘special mango train’ on Chapainawabganj-Dhaka route via Rajshahi in order to transport mangoes at lower cost.

The West Zone of Bangladesh Railway has taken the initiative to transport mangoes at a lower cost for the welfare of mango farmers and traders amid the Covid-19 situation.

The train, having the capacity of 150 metric tonnes (MT) in its five wagons, will depart Chapainawabganj for Dhaka via Rajshahi every day and the transport cost is up to Tk 1.3 per kg and Tk 1,300 per MT magno. ....

Special mango train to be launched on Chapainawabganj-Dhaka route
The West Zone of Bangladesh Railway is going to launch a special mango train on the route Chapainawabganj-Dhaka - via Rajshahi - for the second consecutive time. According to Nasir Uddin, Divisional Commercial Manager of the zone, the initiative has also been taken to transport mangoes at a lower cost to support mango growers and traders amid the current pandemic.
We have taken the decision of transporting mangoes to Dhaka from this mango producing area for the benefit of growers and traders, Nasir Uddin told thedailystar.net.
The train will make a stoppage for loading mangoes at 14 stations on the Chapainawabganj-Dhaka railway route via Rajshahi. The cargo train will carry a maximum 150 tons of mangoes in five wagons every day. It will cost Tk 1.17 for a kilogram of mangoes to be transported to Dhaka from Rajshahi and from Chapainawabganj to Dhaka it will cost Tk 1.3 for the same. ....
