When Aldi launched a copycat version of Farmer Jo’s top-selling paleo muesli, co-founder Scott Tulloch didn’t consider taking the discount retailer to court.
With annual revenues of around $7 million, Farmer Jo is a minnow compared with Aldi, whose sales in Australia alone reached $10.5 billion last year.
Mr Tulloch and his wife Sally, who started making granola by hand in their Clovelly home 10 years ago because they were unhappy with the “boring and bland” offers on the market, saw Aldi’s attention as a compliment rather than a threat.
Farmer Jo founders Scott and Sally Tulloch aren’t concerned about Aldi cutting in on their turf.  ....
