Dyer Claims Controversial Victory Over Lee in Portman Cup

Kieron Dyer claimed a controversial 4-3 victory over his fellow academy coach Alan Lee in this season’s Portman Cup at Portman Road on Friday. The pair took charge of two teams of fans who had paid for the privilege of gracing the hallowed turf.
The players arrived at Portman Road at 1.30pm to find their kit laid out in the dressing rooms, just as the real teams would be on a Saturday afternoon.
Prior to kick-off, the sides were introduced to their managers before taking part in a warm-up on the practice pitch and being given a team-talk. ....

Mitchell said he had been thinking of hosting such an event for quite some time.
“I just knew it would offer something extra for cyclers and speed skaters, and I had heard of other towns doing something similar,” he said.
“You’ve got a steep climb of four storeys that would test even the hardiest cyclist.”
Cyclists had a standing start at the entrance, and then pedalled up the four storeys, with those who had some energy left having a sprint finish at the top. ....

Mitchell said cyclists would have a standing start at the entrance then pedal up four storeys with those who had some energy left having a sprint finish at the top.
“They will go in pairs and will flip a coin to decide who gets the inside lane. The fastest rider goes to the next round.
“Some guys have been doing it in 30 seconds.’’
Strong contenders to take out honours included James Corry, Thomas Allan and Hamish McDonald. The event was also open to children.
“They can have road or mountain bikes and the kids on whatever.’’
The entry fee was $20 for adults and $10 for children. Mitchell said there would be a DJ, sausage sizzle and lots of prizes. The event starts at 7pm. ....
