Couple to appear in court today

A couple from the World Harvest Ministries International church, where there was a coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, will appear in the St Matthias Magistrates’ Court today.
Fabian John and Vanessa Maylin John of Kingsland Heights, Christ Church are charged with refusing to carry out a lawful order imposed by the Chief Medical Officer on April 26.
Police said they were at the centre of a five-hour stand-off with health officials, the Barbados Defence Force and lawmen before they were placed in quarantine at the St Lucy District Hospital.
“Their Speightstown, St Peter church has been connected to one of the northern COVID-19 clusters and at last count linked to 28 cases,” according to a statement from police. ....

Three without masks fined

Three men were fined $250 each Friday for breaching COVID-19 Directive No.4 by not wearing masks.
Shaquawn Joseph and Dwayne Trim, both of Hinds Gap, Halls Road, St Michael, along with Jaquan Stoute, of Marlhole Gap, also in St Michael, all pleaded guilty to contravening the Emergency Management (COVID-19) (Curfew) (No.4) Directive 2021, by failing to wear a mask in a public while at Hinds Gap, Halls Road, on February 22.
The three men apologised and insisted they would never disobey the law again.
Joseph and Trim were back in the court, following their appearance at District “A” Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Manila Renee last week on drug charges. They were both placed on bonds to keep the peace, Joseph for six months and Trim for a year, respectively. ....

Two men were fined for poaching sea eggs during the closed season.
Kevin Andrew Luke, a 36-year-old water sports operator, of College Savannah No. 2, St John, and unemployed Richard Anderson Marshall, 43, of Marley Vale, St Philip, both pleaded guilty to having a quantity of sea egg roe during the closed season, without obtaining written permission from the Chief Fisheries Officer.
Both men also admitted to breaching COVID-19 Directive No. 4, which is in place from February 18-28, 2021, by visiting Bath Beach, St John, other than for the purpose of swimming or exercising. ....
