Even before the 2020-21 ski season began, Snowmass General Manager Susan Cross emphasized personal responsibility as the key to a successful pandemic-era winter.
Yes, there would be staffers enforcing mask compliance. Yes, there would be capacity limits indoors and spacing rules on the lifts. And yes, there would be signage reminding people to keep their distance and keep their faces covered. But there’s a point at which masking up and staying self-contained had to fall on the thousands of people who hit the slopes this winter. ....

Aspen Skiing Co. eliminates Classic Pass, lineup will be announced in August

Aspen Skiing Co. hasn’t determined yet what its season pass lineup will look like next season but the once-popular Classic Pass has bitten the dust.
Skico will announce the bulk of passes and prices in August, as it has usually done. The tradition was disrupted last year because of the pandemic. Skico officials worked on pass options and pricing right up until they announced the results in late September.
“We are reviewing all the new pass options and what we offered in the past” to decide what to offer next season, Skico vice president of communications Jeff Hanle said Tuesday. ....

Snowmass resident Scott Gilbert and his wife, Jeanette, were skiing on the Slot trail at Snowmass Resort on Feb. 22, 2020, when they decided while on the chairlift to pull over on their next run and watch a dogsled travel by. It was a decision that would soon lead to one of the worst days of their lives.
The Gilberts stopped on the left side of Lower Slot below a catwalk that is used by the dogsleds from Krabloonik Kennels, a longtime Snowmass Village business that operates on U.S. Forest Service land. The dogsleds cross ski trails in the Campground section of Snowmass ski area as part of their route. ....
