Tirupati Balaji Darshan: Alipiri Pathway Shut

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has announced that it will close the footpath from Alipiri to Tirumala hills in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. This was being done with a view to fast track the repair works and reconstruct the top slab of the entire path. TTD has decided to close the walking path from June 1 to July 31.
The TTD officials, on Wednesday, said that the devotees who are planning to visit Tirumala on foot can go through the alternate Srivari Mettu path. It is to be noted that TTD would provide free buses up to Srivari Mettu from Alipiri for the pilgrims, they added.

In a pilgrim-friendly move, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Monday simplified the allotment procedure of cottages and guesthouses to the devotees who have booked their accommodation online.
Special counters have been set up at Padala mandapam on the Alipiri footpath and Sri Vari Mettu trekking route, besides the security checking plaza in Tirupati for the purpose.
Two counters on the trekking routes will cater to the needs of the devotees reaching on foot, while the one at Alipiri checking point will meet the requirements of those motoring up to the hill town.

TIRUPATI: Tragedy struck on the Tirumala walkway Srivari Mettu , when a B.Tech student who went on a visit to the temple died of a heart attack on Saturday.
Rahul, a B.Tech student from Hyderabad, was on his way up the hill by foot along with his family members. Upon reaching the galigopuram, he had difficulty breathing and stopped midway.
TTD staff immediately provided first aid but to no avail and Rahul died of breathlessness on the spot.

Many Bengalureans have been trekking to Tirumala to have a darshan of the diety on
Vaikunta Ekadashi, which falls on Friday. Every year, thousands make the 270-km journey for this occasion on their
personal vehicles,
public transport and even on their barefoot.
Vishwanath G, who works in a city-based public sector, said, "This year, we were apprehensive about walking all the way to Tirumala. However, after seeing a number of people already doing it, we decided to join them." His walking mate Mani KV, who works as a technician, said that though it may be tiring to walk for such a long distance, it is interesting.
