Hong Kong: Govt relief helps ease poverty
The Government’s relief measures help to ease Hong Kong s poverty situation, Secretary for Labour & Welfare Dr Law Chi-kwong said today.
Dr Law made the remarks in response to reporters questions on the figures in the Hong Kong Poverty Situation Report 2019 released yesterday.
According to the report, the city’s poor population exceeded 1.4 million people in 2019 prior to the Government’s intervention. The report also elaborated on the measures taken to address the problem.
Dr Law said: “It tells us that if the Government does nothing at all, then how many people will be living in poverty. It also tells us the impact of the downturn of the economy, its impact on different sectors of the community.” ....
