Singapore Maritime Week 2021 to discuss industryâs âNew Frontiers, Shifting Paradigmsâ 12 Apr 2021 The 15th Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) 2021 is organised by the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), in collaboration with industry stakeholders and research and educational institutions. It is to be held from Monday, 19 April to Friday, 23 April 2021. This week-long event will bring together industry experts and thought leaders in the maritime sector to discuss the changing face of the industry, and explore solutions that will enable the industry to thrive in the post-Covid-19 environment. Themed âNew Frontiers, Shifting Paradigmsâ, the 15th SMW will provide a platform for maritime leaders to discuss new opportunities and key competencies for Singapore to achieve its vision of a global maritime hub for connectivity, innovation and talent, said the MPA. ....
Singapore 1st to ratify marine aids to navigation treaty On 9 March 2021, Singapore ratified the Convention on the International Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation. As explained, acceding to the convention will support the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) to become an intergovernmental organisation. Established in 1957, IALA is the international association for technical standards in marine aids to navigation (ATON), vessel traffic services (VTS) and e-navigation. Consisting of technical committees that develop common standards and practices across the maritime industry, IALA drives the harmonisation of ATON worldwide to foster safe, economic and efficient shipping. Port of Singapore eyes more clean fuel options January 14, 2021, by Naida Hakirevic In order to remain the world’s top bunkering hub, the Port of Singapore needs to look beyond liquefied natural gas (LNG), toward other zero or low carbon fuel types. This was pointed out by Chee Hong Tat, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Transport, at the Singapore Maritime Foundation’s New Year Conversations event on 13 January. During his speech, the minister revealed that Singapore remained the world’s top bunkering hub in 2020 with sales amounting to 49.8 million tonnes, an increase of 5 per cent year-on-year.
