GUWAHATI: Assamese films are back after a 10-month hiatus and the first movie Himanshu Prasad Das’s ‘Goru’ (Cow) has attracted thousands of film buffs at the Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir at Uzanbazar here. The film has received rave reviews with people calling it a true representation of the current political scenario of Assam.
Das, who is a 2008 alumnus of the National School of Drama, told
TOI that the response has been electrifying so far. The film has received a lot of love from the audience and a loud cheer could be heard at the theatre as the film ended. The movie touches upon some scorching issues of contemporary Assam, like the “politics revolving around religion, cow, minority vote bank, illegal Bangladeshis and sensational reporting by the media”. ....

Akhil Gogoi, who has been in jail since his arrest on December 12, 2019, at the peak of the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act movement in Assam, will lead the recently floated Raijor Dal as its first president.
The regional party named Akhil its president in the wee hours of Saturday at its first executive meeting held in Moran in Sivasagar district.
Akhil, 44, appeared to be the unanimous choice for the post because he was the founding member of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, was also the brain behind Raijor Dal and one of the most recognisable faces in contemporary state politics, a senior participant told ....
