Gladstone set to become 'hydrogen capital of the world'


The landmark signing of a memorandum of understanding between multiple partners signals the progression towards Gladstone becoming “the hydrogen capital of the world.”
By the year 2030, it is anticipated thousands of people will be employed in the renewable hydrogen industry in Gladstone and CQ, and exports generating billions of dollars will flow through Queensland’s biggest and busiest multi-commodity port.
Global hydrogen heavyweight, Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation, has partnered with Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC), Gladstone Regional Council (GRC), CQ University (CQU) and the Australian Gas Industry Group AGIG to develop Australia’s, and the world’s first hydrogen ecosystem.

The evolution of Gladstone as a renewable hydrogen powerhouse is exceeding benchmarks with the $4.2 million project s plant months ahead of schedule.
Hydrogen Park Gladstone will be an Australian first, delivering up to 10 per cent renewable hydrogen into the gas network to feed about 770 customers.
The Palaszczuk government has invested $1.7 million into the project, Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen Minister Mick de Brenni said, to drive the hydrogen industry forward and create highly skilled jobs in regional Queensland.
The Hydrogen Park Gladstone project will be the first in Australia to blend renewable hydrogen into an entire city gas network for residential, commercial and industrial customers, he said. ....

CQ to shape how we use energy with $4.2m hydrogen park

Central Queensland is set to lead the way Australians use energy in the future with the $4.2 million Hydrogen Park Gladstone project.
Expanding on a South Australian pilot program, Hydrogen Park Gladstone will double the renewable hydrogen concentration to 10 per cent.
The project is driven by the Federal Government s National Hydrogen Strategy.
The Australian Gas Infrastructure Group s Gladstone compound situated on Derby Street will connect to a new underground hydrogen pipeline.
The pipeline will deliver up to 10 per cent blended renewable hydrogen to a closed micro-grid of more than 770 customers on the existing gas network - an Australian first. ....
