18 others injured in second HESCO-related explosion in two months
HYDERABAD:
Occurring as a successive reminder of the dangerously fragile and hazardous transmission system of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), a blast in a pole-mounted transformer (PMT) in Hyderabad on Thursday claimed five lives.
Some 18 other persons were injured with fatal burn wounds in the explosion, which was accompanied by the spilling of hot oil from the transformer.
The incident occurred in Latifabad Unit 8 in near Akbari ground.
The injured patients were shifted to the burns ward at Liaquat University Hospital in Hyderabad. However, due to the dearth of facilities, 17 of the injured persons were referred to Karachi. ....

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Leader of Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh has said the Sindh government lacked funds to import Covid-19 vaccines but it is planning to invest millions of rupees to procure vehicles to catch stray dogs.
Punjab government is procuring the vaccine from its own funds but Sindh government is still dependent on the Centre, Sheikh said at a press conference at Hyderabad Press Club on Sunday. ....

PMA Sindh reiterates objections on PMC
Rejects entry tests conducted by the authority
The Pakistan Medical Association’s (PMA) Sindh chapter has reiterated its opposition to the Pakistan Medical Commission and the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) conducted by the authority. At a press conference at Hyderabad Press Club on Wednesday, PMA General-Secretary Dr Rafiqul Hassan Khokhar demanded the transfer of the authority for conducting entry tests for medical universities to the provinces.
“The PMC’s admission policy is inimical for the interests of Sindh, Balochistan and KPK. The PMC should be stopped from conducting the tests,” he argued, pointing out the reported discrepancies in the tests. He said that the Sindh High Court has already directed the PMC to prepare a uniform syllabus for the tests which also reflects that discrepancies exist. ....
