Eversource: Crews digging drain lines at Highland Avenue intersection hit our gas main

Needham police and fire evacuated residents and local businesses in the area of Highland Avenue and Webster Street Wednesday morning after work crews struck a gas line owned by Eversource.
In an emailed statement sent Wednesday evening, Eversource spokesperson Reid Lamberty said, a third-party contractor, Gioioso Construction, was digging in the street to install two drain lines when they hit our gas main.
Boston-based Gioioso was not hired by the utility company to do the work, according to the spokesperson. ....
