Barred owl cared for by LSU vet students released back into wild

An adult female barred owl is back in the wild after it was dropped off at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine about two months ago.
After being found in the wild suffering from a broken wing, the bird underwent surgery to insert a pin and wire in order to hold her wing together.
Dr. Mark Mitchell, director of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, says the owl would have died without the emergency care. Mitchell said the procedure is not much different than one that would be performed on a dog or even a human. ....
