Detailed description is CIAO (Center for Introduction to Architecture Overseas), 3-week summer program in Italy CIAO! is offered by the Center for Sustainable Urbanism, an education non-profit, whose programs are focused on the built environment from a holistic and sustainability perspective. . . CIAO! the Center for Introduction to Architecture Overseas, is a three-week summer program geared toward high school students ages 16 and older to explore architecture, landscape architecture, and planning. With Rome as a living laboratory, students are immersed in a week-long exploration of the evolution of built form from antiquity to modern times. . . Students then spend two weeks at the Center, in Sant'Angelo in Pontano, working on a design project in an atelier environment. The students master freehand sketching, model-making and designing with Google SketchUp. At the completion of the project they present their efforts to the mayor of the village. . . Student work is documented for use in portfolios for college application. CIAO! alums have been accepted at top schools including Yale, Columbia, RISD, Cooper Union, Pratt, Syracuse, UCLA, Cal Poly and Berkeley as well as schools in Europe and Latin America. We are proud of our alums who come from all over the USA and around the world including Japan, China, Taiwan, Mexico and Scotland. . . CIAO! collaborates with universities in Italy including Rome's La Sapienza. Through our professional network, we have an entrée also to the American Academy in Rome.
