Detailed description is New album The Great Mistake out now: http://smarturl.it/thegreatmistake. Be sure to like http://facebook.com/edhalemusic for more news and music..The musical group called ED HALE AND THE TRANSCENDENCE is a tough nut to crack. Like many incestuous rock bands that grow organically from a local scene to national prominence, the group is made up of members of a long-standing local scene who played in several different bands at the same time. Taking it a few steps further, though Transcendence originally formed in Miami in 2002 and was once upon a time considered a Miami band, the band members now live in five different States -- New York, Atlanta, Seattle, Miami and Los Angeles with only two band members still residing in Miami. Like many things Ed Hale and the Transcendence it sounds more complicated than it really is.. . The band just released their sixth studio album as a group entitled THE GREAT MISTAKE, an indie-rock/garage-pop feast that is altogether a different animal from last year's epic concept album-like ALL YOUR HEROES BECOME VILLAINS. While the latter sparked of a more serious minded heavier and more modern Pink Floyd, Radiohead, or U2 -- a sound the band is already well known for, the newer album they just released sounds like it could be Phoenix, The Thrills or the Strokes; at times even the Stones for that matter. The two albums couldn't sound more dissimilar, but they were made by the same group of musicians. At the same time. In the same studio. The same group who debuted with the World Music meets Modern Rock amalgam RISE AND SHINE in 2002 and the 70s Glam/80s New Wave mash-up entitled NOTHING IS COHESIVE that was called "one of the most important albums of the year" by The Flaming Lip's Hellfire Tastemakers club in 2004. . . Complicating things further, lead singer Ed Hale racked up two Billboard Top 30 hits on the Adult Contemporary Chart last year with the songs "New Orleans Dreams" and "Scene in San Francisco" from his last solo album BALLAD ON THIRD AVENUE, opening up an entirely new set of fans to the ever-growing Transcendence fanbase. Diversity is one thing the band has never had a shortage of.. . "In Transcendence, you have a group of five guys and one honorary girl, all so hyperactive, obsessive, insane... with severe cases of ADHD and an extreme passion for music all running around trying to make sense of everything they are listening to and each wanting to create their own personal artistic statement... I mean we've never worried about commercial success or what's popular. All the guys are obsessed with just making great music, different music, you know. The chances of that translating into any two albums sounding remotely similar is going to be slim," [New Times] stated lead singer Ed Hale, in a 2005 interview explaining the wide variety of musical boundaries the band has covered in their ten years together.. . Transcendence as a band is a tight-knit collective of musicians from the Miami music scene who first came together in 2001 when two of the members were still in high school. The band is known for their extravagant experimentalism, reverence for melodies, and an often eclectic, sometimes unnerving yet enticing tendency toward stylistic changes according to music critics who regularly laud the band with praise and aplomb that to date eclipses their commercial success in the mainstream.. . "Smoothing across genres like a skater on ice, Ed Hale and company show amazing songwriting skills throughout Rise and Shine. They have just released a debut on TMG Records that is one I cannot listen to less than twice a day…fusing such styles as Brit-pop, Brazilian, R&B, rap, rock, new wave and classical - among others - Transcendence create a wild array of songs but somehow hold them together with left-field bite. . [Marcus Pan, Legends Magazine] . . The band was originally put together by singer/songwriter Ed Hale, who first came to local prominence while in music school in Atlanta as Eddie Darling and then later in Miami with the popular college-radio band Broken Spectacles in his teens and a few solo albums (THE EDDIE ALBUM, SPECTACULARLY BROKEN, GOODBYE EDDIE DARLING, and ACOUSTIC IN NEW YORK respectively). Drummer Ricardo Mazzi (Tereso, The Tremends) joined because of his shared interest in world-music with singer Hale. Guitarist/multi-instrumentalist-extraordinaire Fernando Perdomo (DC3, Paulina Rubio, Dreaming In Stereo) had already achieved local fame for his extreme talent for playing just about anything brilliantly. He joined the Transcendence line-up just out of high school after a call from Hale based on a suggestion from music manager/record label owner Rich Ulua of Marilyn Manson/ The Mavericks fame because of his shared passion for early-seventies pop and rock. "I actually owned THE EDDIE ALBUM before I ever met Ed in person. I loved that album!" commented Perdomo in an interview in 2003. . . Soon followed one of Perdomo's younger bandmates in their high school rock ensemble, the cute, quiet and multi-talented bassist Roger Houdaille (Ex Norwegian, The BJ Experience) who is the youngest member of the group. He also happened to share the other band members' passion for late sixties and early seventies pop and rock, albeit Houdaille leans more toward the eclectic side of things, as Hale seems to lean more toward Glam and Perdomo tends to gravitate towards Progressive Rock. (His first solo album entitled DREAMING IN STEREO was classified as "Prog-Pop".) . . Boston native pianist Jon Rose (Jon Secada, Fulano, Billy Elliot) was studying jazz at the University of Miami when he joined the band and often acts as the group's musical director. Also at the University of Miami music school was Bill Sommer (Blinking Underdogs, the Shut-ups) who signed on as the band's second drummer a year later, adding a more modern, indie-rock vibe to Mazzi's World Music and heavy rock layers. . . Various other "fifth member" notables also regularly contribute to Ed Hale & The Transcendence albums including Derek Cintron, Zach Ziskin, and Karen "Trophy Wife" Feldner, making the group more of a musical collective than your standard rock band. "Basically what it comes down to is if people from the scene hear that Ed is down from New York and we are tracking a new album then they stop by the studio just to hang out or catch up, and then they end up adding something of their own to whatever we are working on. Its like that," bassist Roger Houdaille commented in a 2006 interview with the band. It is rumored that Ed Hale and the Transcendence are working with legendary producer Tony Visconti (David Bowie, Lou Reed, T. Rex) on their new as of yet untitled album, which is said to be a two-CD set comprised of approximately 34 songs. The band is currently in the recording studio in New York, Los Angeles and Seattle working on their follow up to last year's THE GREAT MISTAKE. They just finished recording a song for an upcoming biopic movie about football greats Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. They are signed to Dying Van Gogh Records and to the Fieldhouse Music branch of BMG. . . Founded in 2002 by lead singer Ed Hale and drummer Ricardo Mazzi. Lead guitarist Fernando Perdomo, second drummer Bill Sommer, keyboard player Jon Rose and bassist Roger Houdaille soon joined to create the core of the band. Originally formed in Miami, FL though the members now live scattered throughout the United States.. . The band has released six studio albums starting with their debut RISE AND SHINE through their latest THE GREAT MISTAKE. They also record and release solo albums and various side projects such as the indie-rock groups Dreaming In Stereo and Ex Norwegian. Their songs have been featured in numerous TV shows and movies throughout the years. They have scored Top 40 hits in a variety of radio formats including Alternative Rock, Modern Rock, College Radio, and Adult Contemporary with songs such as "Better Luck Next Time", "Mother", "Superhero Girl", "Vicodin", "I'm Not the Only One", "Minnie Driver", "Somebody Kill the DJ", "All this is Beginning to Feel Like an Ending", "Whenever I'm With You", "Blind Eye", "Solaris", "Messed it up Again", "Waiting for Godot", "Baby Bop", and "Monday". . . Ed Hale and the Transcendence are best known for their stylistic diversity, Hale's open-tuned guitar-based songwriting, elaborate and complex arrangement and production and lead guitarist Fernando Perdomo's virtuoso guitar wizardry. They are also noted for their 70s Brit-pop and Glam rock influenced sound, their openness to experimentation and a diehard commitment to melody and harmony over commercial trends. The band has covered a lot of musical ground in their 11 years together and maintains a frenetic schedule of recording and releasing albums along with live appearances. . . DISCOGRAPHY:.
