Detailed description is The Committee for Inclusive is an unaffiliated student group committed to the establishment of an Asian American studies minor program (AASP) at Ithaca College. We advocate for inclusive education, intersectionality, education as transformation.... “Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world.” . ― Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed. . The Committee for Inclusive is an unaffiliated group of students committed to the establishment of an Asian American studies minor program (AASP) at Ithaca College. We advocate for inclusive education, intersectionality, education as transformation, and dialogues about racism, sexism, and other forms of identity oppression. . . While IC faculty members have supported an AASP since the creation of the Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity (CSCRE) nearly a decade ago, the student-led initiative to establish an AASP began during the Spring of 2011 when three students undertook a documentary entitled "Missing in History," The film narrates the student's struggle to establish an AASP, and presents conversations with real IC students and faculty member from all areas of the identity spectrum. The interviewees give their thoughts on the AASP and what it means to have a group excluded from our curriculums and dominant narratives.. . On March 26, 2012, the students heard news that Ithaca College's provost approved the minor proposal for an AASP. Although the news certainly merits celebration, the approval does not mean that the AASP has been established nor does it guarantee its establishment. The curriculum planning process is long and multi-layered. For the AASP, this means that the Humanities and Sciences Curriculum Planning Committee and the Academic Policies Committee still need to approve the minor program. Afterwards, the provost must approve a faculty line. The students are grateful for the work and dedication that faculty allies have put into the program proposal, but there is still reason to persist in the cause for an AASP and inclusive education..
