Detailed description is Drop That Label is an NUS student-led initiative by CHAT to get our NUS peers to drop the labels of stigma we place on those with mental health issues. . Studies have found that 1 in 5 young adults suffer from a mental illness, such as depression, anxiety disorders and eating disorders. . . Many of these youths go untreated - because they are afraid of what others might think of them, because they fear the label society might put onto them when they are diagnosed with a mental illness, because they do not know where to seek help, because they believe that they cannot be 'cured' or simply because they do not know that they need help. . . Drop That Label! aims to increase the understanding of NUS students on mental health and mental illnesses, so that we can come to understand that people with mental illnesses are no different from us. People with mental illnesses have been carrying around the label that society has put onto them, and it's time for us to be enlightened and DROP THAT LABEL! . . As part of our campaign, BLACK & WHITE badges will be distributed randomly to the NUS population. The black badges bear messages that highlight the realities of people suffering from mental illnesses, and white badges bear messages that breaks down the common misconceptions people have of mental illnesses. . . Spread the message and do your part for mental health awareness by wearing the badge around campus! . . BRING YOUR B&W BADGES and come down for our main event day on 10/10/2013 @ FASS Arts Walkway to support our cause!! . . Free goodie bags and a surprise gift will be given out (while stocks last!!). . JOIN US in our movement to break down the stigma against mental illnesses, and DROP THAT LABEL!.
