Detailed description is Retail and Residential Building James A. McCandless had this building built in 1894. The James A. McCandless Mercantile and Clothing was in the west storefront. The European Hotel occupied the second and third stories and there were also some offices and a public hall, known as the McCandless Hall on the second story. . By 1896 a Golden Rule store was located in the building. In December, 1896 Golden Rule was gone and the Florence Supply Company was here. By 1900, the building housed the McCandless store on the west and a grocery store on the east. In 1921 the Burtler and Sauer Furniture Company established their business. Upstairs was named the Victor Hotel and renamed the Butler Apartments by 1946.. In 1958 the building housed the Tib-O-suds Washomatic and the Econo-Shop. These were still present in 1975. In 1981 Wendy's Game Room was on one side and a Laundromat on the other.. In 1991 Bobby Joe'sGame Room and Owens upholstery were here. By 1993 the first floor held a mini-mal and a variety of businesses operated here over the years..
