Detailed description is American Legion Post 56 is a veterans organization serving those who served during a time of war. Post 56 is one of the oldest American Legion Posts in the Nation. Founded between 1922 & 24, the original Post was located in Cape Charles, Va. The Post burned down in 1961 destroying all Post history, military memorabilia and artifacts. The Post languished for years until a handful of veterans acquired the present structure in 2006. Post 56 now boasts over 220 members who served our country in a time of war.
