Detailed description is custom effects pedal enclosures - design and chemical etching I design and specialize in chemical etched enclosures. “Specialize”…maybe that is too strong of a word…but, will stick with that. I have been doing this for around a year (yeah, “specialize” is definitely probably too strong of a word) and it is something I truly enjoy, a new art outlet with a cast aluminum canvas. I have a thing for industrial/spacey designs and I agonize over the perfect knob and led choices to use on enclosures. It is functional art to be used to make more art and I love it. . . Up until this point all the enclosures I have been fabricating were solely for builds between myself and electronics collaborators (I hate the electronic portion of pedal building so I rely on others for that, I am just the enclosure dude). However, recently a growing number of people have been asking me if I can accommodate custom enclosures or help with small runs of pedals that they would like to create. And, as you can likely guess based on the fact that this page now exists, I like the idea of offering such a service. However, am I equipped to mass produce anything? Not at all. Can I had small runs limited runs for builders? Yeah, I can do that. I am not doing laser etching. I do chemical etching, a tedious process that is not done with a machine, but a process that lets me achieve a distinct “distressed” look. I build enclosures that look “wore in,” like they have been stomped on for years. Why? Because I like to use equipment and instead of getting furious when a beautiful piece of gear gets it first chip, I have bypassed the “ugly” phase and went straight to the “mojo” phase. Every new chip, scratch, scuff you create becomes a new character mark that only further enhances the design. Can I make pretty stuff too? Yeah I can and have in the past, but I don’t like to. Will I? Probably not so let’s just get that out there; I have a specific aesthetic that I have created and would like to retain, even if I am building for other people. . . Will something actually become of this? I don’t know. However, it doesn’t really matter because I am going to keep making enclosures until I become bored with it and figure out a new art outlet. Now, after reading all of this I probably sound pretty flaky. You are probably thinking, hey this is just some dude building enclosures in his garage, and you would be correct. I am just some dude with a drill press, some chemicals, a garage, and a strong opinion on how things “should” look. So take a look at some example pics and if you like what you see feel free to message me.
