Beaver Dam Swimming Club is located in Cockeysville, Maryland covering 30 acres. We are known for our freshwater quarry and our infamous rope swing. Come spend a fun-filled day with us swimming in either of our two pools or take a break and enjoy some volleyball and basketball at one of our courts. If relaxing is more of your interest, we have shaded areas with grills for picnics and cookouts or stop by our snack bar for a quick bite to eat.. . OPEN DAILY WEATHER PERMITTING. ​ . Life jackets and noodles are available for rent from the front gate. There is a $20 deposit for either one jacket or for two noodles. Each jacket requires a $20 deposit. It is a quarry – in fact the very quarry that supplied the marble for the Washington Monument as well as many other Baltimore, DC, and New York landmarks. So it is quite, quite deep, which also means the water can be very cold. And you can’t see the bottom. I like those features, especially the cold water part when you are dripping sweat in the Maryland August heat. Plus it is huge. My stepdad used to go scuba diving there as a kid. That sounds fun, . Beaver Dam is also great in that it features a rope swing from a high platform, rocks you can leap from, another platform for jumping or diving from pretty high up, and a diving board – all very superfun ways to enter the water.. . Once you’re in, there is always tons of room for rafts or noodles or whatever flotation device allows you to drift for forever. There are also a few platforms that you can sun on like a seal (if you can climb onto them; they do not have ladders and it is fun to watch people try to hoist themselves up ungracefully and sometimes unsuccessfully). There is a log!!! it rolls. it is extremely difficult to get up on. the fun is in the trying (no grace allowed there).. . there’s also a pool for kids/non-swimmers to keep cool in, a sandy beach for relaxing, shady grass areas, beach volleyball, a snack bar with fried dough…just really, really wonderful in so many ways.. . there’s no alcohol allowed and they are pretty strict about it so it doesn’t get crazy, and there seems to be a pretty interesting mix of people there – all colors, all ages, families and teenagers, etc. There are lifeguards and one patrols the quarry in a boat, so it is quite safe.. . it kind of reminds me of Barton Springs in Austin, TX but I like it better. mostly because of the rope swing! also the sandy beach. and that i get to go with my family, who enjoys the hell out of it just as much as (or more than?) me."
