Detailed description is BCFA’s purpose is to provide behavioral education and support to parents and caregivers of all children with or without disabilities in the south shore. As a special education teacher specializing in behavioral education and support to students with disabilities that exhibit social, emotional, and behavioral challenges I am aware of the current prevalence and growing rate of social-emotional concerns and behavioral difficulties in children and the need to do more. Children with these challenges have the potential to be supported appropriately in school, and most are however; at home, these same opportunities for children are scarce, children are not eligible for certain services, the help needed or wanted is not as easily accessible and available to parents and caregivers to support their child at home and as a result parents are not properly supported and children go without the help they need.. . Parents and caregivers whose children have difficult behaviors are often under supported, not acknowledged, and are not aware or properly educated on how to appropriately help their child behaviorally at home and are unable to find the necessary support they deserve. Children’s behaviors can often be misunderstood, overlooked, and unidentified delaying the child’s ability to receive support and creating difficulties for parents and caregivers at home. Parents and caregivers need to be properly educated, given hope, shown the possibilities of their child and how their behaviors can be improved. Parents and caregivers need to be part of the learning process, and given the right strategies, tools, and mindset to support their child. Service providers and organizations can place a lot of emphasis on the child and working one-to-one with the child without the parent present and involved in the process. This results in inconsistencies with how the parents/caregiver works with their child versus the service provider, delays progress, and doesn't provide the parent who spends most of the time with their child the strategies, tools, and approach to helping their child. The focus needs to be on the parent/caregiver facilitating change, and bridging the gap between parents/caregiver and child. I will coach you through it.. . My goal as a Behavior Coach and through BCFA is to provide parents with behavioral education through conversation, observations, and a naturalistic and therapeutic approach with a different perspective, mindset, and philosophy to learning and improving behavior; creating a more balanced, aware, controlled, and independent child. I use my experiences and knowledge of what works to educate parents/caregivers on different strategies, techniques, and methods to access the child, understand the behaviors, and provide affective support changing how they think to change their child's behavior. Through my experiences I have realized that there is an immediate need to support parents with their child’s challenging behaviors outside of school and provide equal opportunity for all children. Many children with challenging behaviors do not qualify for services provided by outside agencies and organizations and therefore allowing unwanted behaviors to continue and evolve. I believe that it is unacceptable that there are very little resources, groups, organizations, or programs out there for children who may not have a prevalent disability or a disability at all but still have behavioral concerns that need to be addressed. Your child requires and deserves the same opportunities to grow, learn, and be successful as other children with disabilities that exhibit similar behaviors and receive services and supports for those behaviors. . . For that reason, BCFA’s purpose is to provide behavioral education and support to parents and caregivers of children with or without disabilities allowing children to receive the attention, support, and care they deserve. BCFA aims to educate parents and caregivers on their child’s behaviors teaching them how to effectively and appropriately manage their child’s challenging behaviors, bridge the gap between parent and child, provide appropriate strategies and supports to manage and correct unwanted behaviors, and how to regain control of their child and their lives. BCFA services can include seminars, support groups, workshops, consultation, and home support.
