Detailed description is The Beyond Trauma Trust is a New Zealand-based not-for-profit organization that uses arts to help communities recover from crisis and disaster by addressing trauma in individuals.. Many schools have realized the need to address the impact of ongoing anxiety and stress experienced by children in Christchurch over the last two years. In response to this, The Porcelain Institute developed a model for nurturing disaster resilience in youth exposed to the pressure that crisis situations bring to bare. By leading students through a simple process that enables participants to communicate through visual arts, students express their experiences of and responses to disaster, and identify areas of growth and resilience within themselves. With financial support from UNESCO, Beyond Trauma is implementing this pilot to allow us to develop a best practice approach to the programme, which we hope to implement in other crisis zones. . . The programme consists of a 60-minute workshop led by the programme developer, Tania Kurbatoff, followed by a 30-minute debrief session. Our volunteers will work in pairs and act as small group leaders for this session, which will involve leading approximately ten participants through a basic evaluation sheet and facilitating an elective discussion about the workshop and the participants' individual art works.
