Detailed description is Us My husband and I have always had a love for all animals especially dogs. We established biopetcollars.com in early 2008 in a small town in Upstate New York and began making collars and leashes out of the frustration with not being able to find a collar for our boxer who had severe skin allergies to many things and could not wear a collar for more then a couple hours before she started uncontrollably scratching. We then set out to find a material that she could comfortably wear that would be durable (as she loved the outdoors) attractive and economical.. . After talking with an Amish friend of ours who manufactures horse harnesses, he turned us to a material called BioThane which he uses to make his harnesses. We purchased a few collars for our boxer and immediately discovered the benefits of BioThane and realized its potential; our boxer could now comfortably wear a collar all the time. After numerous friends and family members asked where we got the collars we decided to learn how to make them ourselves.. . All of the products and equipment used to make these items are purchased directly from the Amish and are completely hand made by ourselves. All of our hardware: buckles, rings, rivets and snaps are extremely durable nickle plated steel. To make our collars as strong as possible we use the strongest rivets called tubular rivets, these are used on our 3/4" and 1" wide collars and leashes. On our 1/2" collars and leashes we use what are called jiffy rivets, these are used in place of tubular rivets because the material is much narrower. Please visit the About BioThane tab to understand our product better and the science behind it's durability.. . We take great care and pride in hand making each collar and leash we sell and stand behind our products 100%. Since we hand make all of our items custom sizes are no issue. Please feel free to contact us with questions, concerns, comments or suggestions. If there is something that you may be interested in and do not see it on our site let us know and we can try to make it. We hope you enjoy our products as much as we do!. . ~Owners Erica & Morgan McKee.
