A group of twelve people, members of the then Temple Baptist Church, sensed the Holy Spirit leading them to start a new work in South Abilene. After much soul searching and prayer they said “yes” and committed to the task. It was a journey of faith that was long and hard at times. They chose the name “Broadview” because of the view from this “high place” in Abilene. At that time there was not much out this way, but they also had a view of the future. A future that now contains a church with multiple worship services, multiple campuses, reaching multiple generations both here in Abilene and all around the world. None of them ever got to see what God would do through their labors and sacrifices. But what a legacy they left. It is a legacy of obedience, submission, sacrifice and love to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We desire to continue in that way in the days ahead.. . Our Mission:. Broadview exists to be a Great Commandment, Great Commission, Acts 1:8 Church.. . Our Pastor:. I first started coming to Broadview in 2005. I was looking for a church that was committed to reaching the unreached. I found that commitment at Broadview. I went from being an unpaid mission intern, to a part time music minister at our West Campus, to a Co-Pastor at our Main Campus, ultimately becoming senior pastor in March of 2013. Growing up, I never would have thought I’d be a pastor but God’s call was unavoidable. Serving at Broadview over the years, I never would have imagined God placing me here as senior pastor. This gift from God is such a humbling privilege. God has been so gracious. God has been gracious to our church. Even though Broadview is a large church, it feels like a close knit family. We value friendliness as a church and want to be known for our personal warmth and West Texas hospitality. We are a church that believes and loves the Bible. In many ways, we stand on the shoulders of those who’ve gone before us. And, being thankful for the past, we are optimistically looking toward the future. I hope you’ll join us in that exciting journey. Broadview is certainly a place that I call home. I hope you’ll be able to say the same.. . Upward in Worship:. The Great Commandment says, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37) This kind of love for God is what we call worship. It’s one of our core values at Broadview. We want to see people love the Lord with the entirety of their being. We believe this happens when we make Him, and no one or nothing else, the ultimate recipient of our affections.. . Inward in Discipleship:. The Great Commission says, “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20) Discipleship is also one of our core values. We welcome people as they are but want to see God take them where they need to be. God’s goal for each believer is that they more fully reflect the image of Christ. This happens through discipleship. . . Outward in Mission:. Acts 1:8 says, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Outreach is also one of our core values. We believe that when a church turns inward then things go downward. We want to be a church that is outwardly focused, seeking the good of Abilene and the Big Country. We value the Lost. Lost people matter to God therefore they matter to our church. We want to see people who are far from God enter into a personal love relationship with Him. We value World Evangelization. That’s why we call ourself an Acts 1:8 Church. We desire to reach the unreached peoples not only of our city (Jerusalem) but of our state (Judea), our nation (Samaria), and our world (the ends of the earth). Broadview has historically been and will continue to be a missions-minded church.. . A Place for the Whole Family:. . Preschool and Children Ministries:. We have a ministry open to preschool age children on Sunday mornings (9:40 & 11:00) and Wednesday evenings (6:30). There is a nursery open on Sunday morning at all three worship hours. We provide preschoolers with Bible based teaching through age-appropriate learning activities. Each class is designed to teach the basic concepts of the Bible in a way that preschoolers can understand. . . We also have a ministry open to elementary grades 1-4 (9:40 & 11:00) and preteens grades 5-6 (11:00) on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings (6:30). Children learn about the Bible in a relaxed, fun, and exciting atmosphere through games, crafts, snacks, scripture memorization, music, and Bible lessons in both large and small group settings.. . Youth and College Ministries:. On Sunday morning at 11:00 there is a ministry targeted towards youth grades 7-12. At this age, hard questions are being asked about God, the Bible, and Christianity in general. We address those questions as we seek to develop a Christian worldview in the lives of our students. The youth have special events throughout the year such as d-now, church camp, road trips, and youth-friendly mission trips. Our college ministry meets on Sunday mornings at 11:00. During the semester they’ll often meet during the week for fellowship and special events.. . Adult and Senior Adult Ministries:. For the adults there are a large variety of ministries available. Small groups are offered on Sunday morning at 9:40 and 11:00 for every age demographic. Some groups also meet throughout the week. There are adult Bible studies offered on Sunday and Wednesday nights with other studies throughout the week. They cover a wide variety of topics. Our young adults meet throughout the year for special events and fellowships. Men meet each semester on Tuesday mornings at 6:30 for breakfast and a bible study. Ladies meet throughout the year for special events. For our senior adults there is a ministry on the third Thursday of every month called Primetimers where a meal is served and fellowship is enjoyed. Our senior adults also travel for special events throughout the year. Lastly, there is a home ministry that takes care of our homebound members who can no longer make it to our campus for worship. Basically, whatever stage of life you may find yourself in, there is a place for you to plug in and belong at Broadview!
