Detailed description is Brown University's Writing Fellows Program. Peer learning across all disciplines. We love coffee dates, hate red pens, and worship Kabob and Curry. The Writing Fellows Program is an interactive, collaborative, peer tutoring approach to teaching writing based on our stubborn belief that writing is, ultimately, a communicative process that is best accomplished in active dialogue with other people. Every semester, approximately eighty Writing Fellows work with students in over 25 classes across the curriculum, from English to political science to biology. . . Our job is not to ensure better grades on papers, but rather to provide students at Brown with readers who can comment extensively on their papers’ organization, analysis, logic, argumentation, clarity, flow, and style. We emphasize process over product in writing and try to make writing and revision active concerns of the entire academic community. Through comments and one-on-one conferences, Writing Fellows encourage students to conceptualize writing and learning as dynamic, collaborative processes.
