Detailed description is Butterfly Dreams Farm is a nonprofit organization that uses horseback riding as a form of therapy for children with special needs Butterfly Dreams Farm is a nonprofit organization that uses horseback riding as a form of therapy for children with special needs. We are located on nine acres of land in Watkinsville, Georgia. Our staff consists of a speech pathologist, a physical therapist, four therapeutic riding instructors, a barn manager and seven gentle, patient and loving horses. Volunteers are relied on to help with all lessons and horse care. Students with a wide range of disabilities benefit from our programs that enhance their physical and mental skills, aid in mobilization and promote socialization and communication.. . We love what we do here at Butterfly Dreams because we have seen real results from our students who partake in either of the two forms of therapy – Therapeutic Riding and Hippotherapy. Therapeutic riding teaches horse care and riding to children with special needs while Hippotherapy allows children with motor and speech deficits to participate in therapy while riding a horse. Our students are able to gain motor and speech skills in a much more fun way than they can inside a clinical setting. Horses are great animals to work with because they give a sense of freedom to children who need help with ordinary tasks of daily living.. . In 2005, Butterfly Dreams Farm Therapeutic Riding Program was incorporated as a nonprofit organization. The program is governed by a volunteer board of directors and run by staff who also work on a volunteer basis. Our program is recognized as a PATH, Intl. – Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International, Facility which holds the highest standards of safety for our participants, volunteers, instructors, therapists, and horses. We currently offer hippotherapy as well as therapeutic riding instruction.
