On May 11, 2008, Cathedral of Praise was founded by 6 men and women of God (Rev. David Venable, Rev. David Harrod, Min. Carol Briscoe, Sis. Latima Owens, Sis Roshawn Harrod, and Sis Joyce Venable) and originally named True Life Redemption Ministries. COP had its first service in a banquet hall and drew a large number and lives began to change. After just two months, the church found its first building in District Heights, Maryland a small store front and the lives of the community began to be impacted in a tremendous way. In July 2008, COP installed its first pastor, the Rev. David J. Venable and the installation was done by Rev. Raymond Bell, pastor of the First Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Washington, DC. . After two years of ministry in the District Heights area and overgrowing the location, God led COP to its new edifice in Clinton, Maryland and this move allowed COP do even more—funerals, weddings, baptism, etc. The ministry grew in major numbers and had over 200 members. In July 2012, God called Rev. Venable to pastor The Cathedral of Christ Baptist Church in Capital Heights and COP named Elder Nelson “Luke” White as its interim pastor. In May 2013, Elder White was installed as pastor by Rev. Venable.. In March 2014, Elder White resigned as pastor and the pulpit was declared vacant. In August 2015, COP called Pastor Venable back as its Senior Pastor and the name Cathedral of Praise became the church’s official name. The church held its first service as COP on Sunday, August 16, 2015 and Lady Victoria Venable was consecrated as its Executive Pastor. COP is under the Temple of Praise International Fellowship of Churches Inc. where our Presiding Prelate is Bishop Glen A. Staples and also a covenant church under the Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies where Bishop Sherman Watkins is Presiding Prelate, Bishop Thomas Dexter Jakes is Vice Prelate, and Bishop Staples is 2nd Vice Prelate. .
