Detailed description is The CCD program at St. Francis de Sales Church offers systematic training in the Catholic faith for Grades K-12. Classes meet on Sunday from 10:15-11:10. Meeting at the church on Sundays at 10:15 from August through May, the CCD program offers systematic training in the Catholic faith from kindergarten through 12th grade. The kindergarten class is a nurturing environment that introduces young children to God: how to know, love, and serve Him. The elementary grades build on this introduction by studying the "Faith and Life" catechetical series as their primary text and the "Baltimore Catechism" as a supplement. Prayer, knowledge, and spiritual growth are emphasized at this level. The 2nd grade class prepares its students for First Holy Confession and First Holy Communion. The texts for this class include "Our Holy Faith Grade 2" and the "St. Joseph First Communion Catechism," with Fr. Lovasik’s "Going to Confession" as a supplement. The upper division classes begin with broader themes, but become more specific as the student progresses through the curriculum. The basis for faith, public worship, morality, and prayer is the focus of these classes. The chief theoretical and practical doctrines of the faith are studied in Grade 7, the continuity of religion in Grade 8, Mass and the sacraments in Grade 9, history of the Catholic Church in Grade 10, moral theology in Grade 11, and apologetics in Grade 12. The Fr. Laux high school series provides the primary texts for Grades 7-9, and the secondary texts for Grades 10-12. Sri's "The Bible Compass" introduces Grade 8 to Scripture, Orlandis' "A Short History of the Catholic Church" is the primary text for Grade 10, "Veritatis Splendor" for Grade 11, and "The Handbook of Catholic Apologetics" for Grade 12. The "Catechism of the Catholic Church" is the supplemental text for Grades 7-12. Grades 11 and 12 represent capstone courses that arm our graduates with the practical and expository skills needed to evangelize in the modern world.
