Block Watch is a program which consists of neighbors looking out for neighbors and maintaining open lines of communication within their blocks.. Participants are educated on what suspicious activities/persons are and how to properly report them to the police and how to be an “extra set” of eyes and ears for the police.. . There are 3 phases to the education process in the BW Program: . 1) Gaining neighborhood cooperation and participation through recruitment. 2) Training both the neighborhood Captains & Co-Captains and participants. 3) Certification and installation of signage. . The Block Watch Program includes teaching residents how to better secure their homes, inside and outside property, and vehicles using the Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) model.. . These Programs help teach our community residents that we need to work together as a whole to solve criminal problems and does not involve just one individual or resources.. .
