Detailed description is I'm Chris, your after-school Maths, English & Science tutor; an actor, writer, musician & filmmaker, trained in journalism, with a Cambridge degree. Ooh! I've been working as a home-based tutor now for three years, helping kids of all ages and levels with their Maths, English and Science. I also provide more general mentoring for gifted kids who are getting bored at school.. . My recent students range from age 7 to 17, from primary school up to NCEA Level 3. Every student is different, so I'm flexible in my approach. Though I'm not a formally trained teacher, I have lots of experience working with kids, as a dad, an after-school care programme facilitator, and an annual shopping mall Santa! (so I always have an up-to-date police check certificate too). I also home school my daughter.. . My degree is in Computer Science from Cambridge University, and I subsequently studied for a certificate in Journalism. I've worked in IT and web publishing roles, and as a corporate trainer, but my passion is for the creative and performing arts: I currently work as a voice and screen actor and writer, and make online music videos. The most fun I've had on a film set was as a background artist / extra on Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies. As a writer I'm currently working on a series of verse-storybooks for older kids, a dark comedy feature screenplay, and development of an animated cartoon series.. . I mainly teach at my kitchen table in hour-long sessions after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 3.30 onwards (all sessions start at half-past the hour). Our house is very close to Pukerua Bay train station which makes it very accessible for college kids travelling in on their own, and it's just off SH1 so easy to get to by car.. . I charge $40/hour for a 60 minute tutorial up to NCEA Level One, and $50/hour for NCEA Levels Two & Three. . . My goal is to make learning easy and fun, to boost kids’ confidence in their abilities and themselves. I've had many happy customers (both students and parents), and can provide references if required.. . As I occasionally have film or voice work that may clash with tutorial times I ask for a bit of flexibility over scheduling in those situations.
