Detailed description is "Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing" (Mary Baker Eddy.) This is our mission, too! Christian Science has a long history in Hilo, Hawai'i. Beginning in the Kingdom of Hawai'i during the early 1890's, individuals joined together to study the Holy Bible, along with Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and to demonstrate the principles of Christ-healing. During the Territorial years, this group grew into the Christian Science Society of Hilo and, in 1927, became a branch of the Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The Society disbanded fr a decade in the mid-1980's, selling their building on the corner of Ululani and Wailuku Streets, and began anew in 1996, when a Christian Science practitioner and her family moved to the area. Although many of us live as far away as Puna and even Ka'u, we have been holding services in Hilo every Sunday--and occasional Wednesdays--ever since! Much more than a religious denomination, Christian Science---defined by Mary Baker Eddy in Rudimental Divine Science "as the law of God, the law of good"---continues to be practiced individually and collectively on Big Island, the neighboring Hawaiian Islands, and throughout the world.
