Detailed description is There's no greater place to get a strong start in life than in the Army's ROTC program. As a full-time student working toward the degree that you've selected, you may qualify for financial assistance and a ROTC scholarship. What is ROTC?. . The acronym “ROTC” stands for the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program. The ROTC program teaches leadership which students can apply throughout their careers, be they in business, industry, technology, education, the physical sciences, or the humanities. The ultimate goal for an ROTC student is to become a commissioned officer in the United States Army, vested by the authority of the President of the United States. . . Eight Military Science (MSLC) classes comprise the ROTC curriculum. Students take one class in each of their eight undergraduate semesters. All Military Science credits count as free electives toward graduation. Students who complete the ROTC program receive a leadership minor from Clarion University, and earn a commission as a second lieutenant and receive placement in one of 17 professional officer specialties in the U.S. Army, including; Adjutant General Corps, Air Defense Artillery, Armor, Aviation, Chemical Corps, Corps of Engineers, Field Artillery, Finance, Infantry, Military Intelligence, Military Police, Medical Service Corps, Nurse Corps, Ordnance Corps, Quartermaster Corps, Signal Corps, and the Transportation Corps. . . The ROTC program is divided into two phases: the Basic Course (freshman and sophomore year) and the Advanced Course (junior and senior year). In most cases, students progress through the ROTC program by enrolling in MS 110 and 112 as freshmen. . . Students who continue in the Basic Course by enrolling in MS 201 and 202 as sophomores incur no military obligation, but they retain the opportunity to compete for a full-tuition ROTC scholarship. If you decide to enter ROTC as a sophomore, junior, or even a graduate student, there are options available to you. If you would like to explore these options, please contact SFC Andrew Byers (814-221-0704). . Whether you have an ROTC scholarship or not, all students who complete the Basic Course are eligible to enroll in the ROTC Advanced Course.
