The Collective of Bangladeshi School Governors in Tower Hamlets is a registered educational charity. The organisation was established in 1987 when there were a few school governors from Bangladeshi community although many schools at the time had over 50% children on the roll from our community. The founders of the 'Collective' were also very concerned about serious underachievement of Bangladeshi children. They clearly saw a correlation between lack of governors from our local community and under performance of Bangladeshi children when it was highlighted by the Swan Report.. . To address this underachievement by promoting & recruiting school governors the 'Collective' was founded and has been working towards achieving the goals since its inception in 1987.. . The organisation has a successful track record in the past. The achievements of Bangladeshi children increased manifold since mid 80's. Tower Hamlets GCSE results has been improved but it has not reach its expected level of parents and community when English, science and Maths included.. . Moreover A level results in Tower Hamlets are not satisfactory at present. It needs to be mentioned that the proportional representation of School population is not reflected in the context of School Governors in the borough at which we are working towards..
