Detailed description is Compassion Coalition Compassion Coalition, Inc. is a community-based, not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to distribute food, clothing, diapers, paper products and other sundries to emergency food providers and to other groups who serve the poor and those in need. Compassion Coalition provides this assistance throughout Utica, Rome, the Mohawk Valley and to any other regional areas of need. We act as a collection and distribution point for food and related products that are provided directly to food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, halfway houses, community associations and inner-city churches that are located in the City of Utica, Oneida and Herkimer Counties, and surrounding areas in central New York. Compassion Coalition is an independent, not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization. CC, Inc. We are a debt-free organization that does not rely on any Federal or State grants to operate. Our income is primarily derived from Agency Fees, our independent for-profit grocery store called, Your Bargain Grocer, and private donations. We are a hybrid food bank that is not part of any National Food Bank. Our basic mission is to set our mission and passion to come along side of the agencies (supplement) and help them purchase product that they cannot afford to buy from the National Food Bank. . . Compassion Coalition, inc. is a licensed salvager in New York State. We work with over 43 vendors to procure our product for distribution. We sign confidential agreements with each vendor to insure weekly delivery of our products. The vendors donate the products to CC, Inc., however, we pay for all shipping costs from their docks to ours. . We serve over 48,166 people per month through our 125-plus member agencies. Many of them are the elderly, children under 16 years old and everyone in-between! Our city alone has over 2,000 elderly who are homebound during the winter months. Many of these homebound elderly no longer have family to care for them or their family members live out-of-State and cannot care for them because of distance and/or location. We were able to get food and personal care items to 200 of them in the past 2 years. It did not cover all of them, but we did our best with what we had! For instance, a $1,000 donation has a major impact on feeding and supplying personal care goods to the less fortunate in our local area. The money will purchase two tractor-trailer loads of food, paper products, diapers and personal care items. This equates to 72,000 pounds of product and 1,400 families being served! We are the first and only food warehouse that solicits, collects and distributes food in the Utica, Rome and Mohawk Valley areas to alleviate hunger in the community. . . Our 36,000 square foot warehouse is located at 509 Lafayette St., Utica, NY. The building was donated to the organization by a local businessman. CC, Inc. began its full-time operation in March 2000. .
