This is a big drop in enrollment compared to that in higher secondary education, where 1 in 2 people enroll. The biggest reason for the drop in higher education is the prohibitive cost faced by students. Most institutions are private or private aided, where the costs are higher than government run institutions. Also, government financial aid is almost non-existent in higher education in India (estimated at a measly annual $3 per student), leaving under-privileged students with no options. . . Culvee was envisioned by the founding team to be a small charitable trust to help students in their home town of Coimbatore, India. But when we spoke to friends and family about the idea, we quickly realized we weren't alone or unique. We decided to extend this idea into a non-profit that will serve not only students India but all over the world. . . Our first project however will be to fund a small group of students in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu in India by May 2016. Upon successful launch, we will take this idea and project to other locations and scale.
