Bob Welch and his wife Debbie both lived and worked in the NYC and Chicago metro areas, where he painted from the late 60's into the early 1980's. In his off hours he took pictures to paint from. He also searched the headlines for news items and photos of the day to turn into paintings. . Bob is self-taught and has mostly worked in oils and charcoal/oil washes; painting street scenes and people. . . Starting in the mid 1980's he took what turned out to be a 30 year hiatus from painting to raise a family and complete a successful business . career. However, his passion for art never wavered and he continued to take photos and clip articles from newspapers and magazines that might eventually become paintings. . . Upon moving to New Bern in 2014, Bob was inspired by the art that surrounded him everywhere in town. So, after 30 years he picked up a paint . brush and began to paint again. After taking some initial classes with local art luminaries Dan Nelson and Chris Wagner in 2016 and 2017, he re-immersed himself in painting, established Dragonfly Studios and is once again a full-time artist. Bob is living proof that it's never too late to pursue your passion in life. . . Bob currently paints mostly with acrylics and loves the flexibility they give him to make both small and large changes in mid-composition. His preferred tool is a pallet knife augmented with brushwork as needed, to bring a subject to completion. His initial works have generated excitement and support in the local market. Two of Bob's original paintings will be featured as banners flown in New Bern, NC as part of the Craven Arts Council's 2017 Banner Project. . .
