Headlining on Saturday, November 12 is nine -time Grammy Award and Pulitzer Prize winner, Wynton Marsalis. The internationally acclaimed musician, composer, bandleader, educator, and leading advocate of American culture, Marsalis returns to perform for the second year in a row at the Exit Zero Jazz Festival, “The audiences for our concerts in Cape May were warm, responsive, and absolutely knowledgeable about jazz. The feeling was so communal and comfortable that the orchestra couldn't help but swing.” He added, “This music may occupy a small space in our culture, but some gigs remind you that that space is worth battling over.” Kline remarks about the coup of presenting Wynton, "“We are thrilled that Wynton recognizes the deep appreciation for the music our audiences here at the Festival are known for. It's an honor to have him return with the Quintet in November- the performance is just one of a handful of Quintet shows in 2016.". . In her debut performance at the Festival and headlining the Schmidtchen Theater MusicConnects Stage on Friday, November 11 is the Grammy-winning vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant. She is well known for her curiosity for the history of American music, and the connections between jazz, vaudeville, blues, and folk music. She pulls much of her repertoire from these rarely recorded gems with strong stories. The Squirrel Nut Zippers, who are touring in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of their recording "Hot," also perform on Friday, November 11 and draw much of their material from the same rare musical vaults mined by Cécile McLorin Salvant, albeit with a much different stage approach.. .
