This denomination was formed by a group of churches and individuals who had been part of the American Baptist Association. The Conservative Baptists came into being out of a concern for “conserving” and standing by certain doctrinal “truths” that had been part of Christianity for centuries. Consequently they adopted the name “Conservative Baptist”. The conservative Baptists came out of the American Baptist Association because the American Baptists were not requiring people being sent out as missionaries to formally state that they supported key Biblical beliefs. These five key beliefs were fundamental basic doctrines derived directly from the Bible that the church had stood by for centuries. These five beliefs included: (1) the virgin birth of Christ, (2) the inerrancy of the scriptures, (3) the physical resurrection. (4) Christ’s substitutionary atonement, and (5) the imminent physical, second coming of Christ.
