Detailed description is Folklore Ensemble LJELJO is a Croatian performance troupe based in Pittsburgh, PA, committed to engaging and promoting our culture through song and dance. Folklore Ensemble LJELJO's name originates from a pre-Christian god. LJELJO is the god of togetherness, marriage and love. It is also related to the name for the Croatian national flower – ljelja, or iris. Our logo and Ensemble represent all of these elements in a beautiful, flowing and dynamic interpretation.. . Employing vocal and instrumental scores from some of the foremost composers in Croatia, the artistic bar for the ensemble will be raised for each successive season under Željko Jergan’s skillful direction. Since he arrived on this continent nearly 30 years ago, Željko has raised the level of Croatian cultural awareness throughout the United States, Canada, and Asia through the creation of hundreds of original choreographies. LJELJO is honored to have him as its Artistic Director. . . As we all know, nothing can make our hearts soar faster than the sounds of tambura and rich vocals and the sight of beautiful traditional costumes.
