Why Italian?.
Aaron’s name may not sound Italian, but his Italian American roots originate in the impoverishment of Southern Italy after the unification of Italy.
These economic conditions stimulated the “Great Migration” of people from Southern Italy to America in search of a better life.
Aaron’s great-great-grandfather, Antonio Milazzo, sailed for America from Sicily in 1901, eventually settling in Milwaukee, where he found work as a carpenter.
Six years later he sent for his wife, Antonia Sordina Milazzo, and their two children, Benedetta and Vicenzo.
The family stayed with Antonia’s brother in the 3rd Ward of Milwaukee, "Little Italy," where approximately 5000 other immigrants from Sicily had settled by 1910.
Antonia Milazzo passed away the day before her 100th birthday, but not before Aaron was born..

Antonia’s daughter, Benedetta Milazzo, married Charles Asti whose family also came from Sicily.
Together they had five children.
Their oldest daughter, Grace, married Anthony Nicolas Sanfilippo in 1941.
Anthony’s parents, Pedro and Antonia Sanfillippo had also come from southern Italy, making their way to Chicago after arriving at Ellis Island.
During the era of Al Capone, the family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Pedro made a living shoveling coal.

Anthony and Grace Sanfillippo had one daughter, Antoinette Benedetta, “Toni”, who married Robert Johnson in 1964.
Toni moved to Chico to be near her son, Aaron and his family.
Grace Sanfilippo, or “Grandma Grace” as she was known, moved from Milwaukee to Paradise in 2004 after her husband died, to be near her family..

This Italian family's recipes have been passed down from generation to generation, eventually finding their way to influencing a Chico restaurant named "Forcella," meaning “fork” in Italian..

Why Jon and Aaron?.
Jon and Aaron met nearly 20 years ago.
Jon was in law enforcement and Aaron was in the technology industry, but their common interest in cooking and food was a connecting point.
Aaron always had an interest in the restaurant business; and while he cooked to help with college expenses in the past, cooking was largely a family experience, a therapeutic hobby, and a creative outlet.
Jon was always serious about food and loved to explore a wide range of cooking styles.
He began catering as a side business and finally turned in his sidearm for a spatula by opening his first full-service restaurant, Jedidiah's in 2004, followed by two additional successful Chico restaurants..

In early 2014, Aaron and Jon starting talking about the possibility of a high quality, value-priced Italian restaurant centered around a few items made fresh in-house--most importantly the pasta.
It took several months of discussions and passing food samples back and forth before the concept became a reality.
A location was secured in 2014 that supported the desired atmosphere.
A dedicated team worked to get Forcella ready to serve the community in early 2015..

Aaron and Jon view their restaurant as an extension of their home.
When friends are invited to their homes for a meal, it is shared around a family table where conversation flourishes and relationships grow.
Their hope is the same for their customers who choose to gather and share a meal at Forcella, that it provides the community with that same sense of warmth and relationship over a fantastic meal..

Jon’s view of cuisine is that simple, fresh ingredients made in-house make the biggest difference in good food.
He wants you to watch this happening for yourself in the pasta room; what better way to know that it’s fresh than watching it be made! .

Aaron grew up with Italian food as a way of life.
He shared that experience with his kids, as they watched their Dad making pasta and his family's traditional Italian recipes throughout the years.
