Detailed description is Fort DuPont began in the 1860's as a Civil War fortress. Named after Rear Admiral Samuel Francis DuPont, the "Battery at Delaware City" remained an important military operation until after WWII. After the war, the fort was turned over to the State of Delaware and became the Governor Bacon Health Center in 1948. The adjacent land along the Delaware River eventually became Fort DuPont State Park.. Through an act of the General Assembly in 2014, and annexed into the town of Delaware City in 2016, Fort DuPont is coming to life again as a thoughtfully planned mixed-use project with new homes, renovated historic homes, marina, performing arts center, retail and commercial space in a charming riverside setting..
