Detailed description is Fort Hays Beef Division is an educational beef cattle production facility utilized by Fort Hays students and alumni as well as Hays community members Fort Hays State University Beef Division is an educational production facility utilized by Fort Hays students and professors as a part of the Agriculture, Biology, and Business education programs. The facility allows students the opportunity to gain experience handling live animals and evaluating real life economic scenarios. The Fort Hays Beef Division encompasses 2,500 acres of grassland and boasts a diversified herd of 225 head of registered and commercial Red Angus, Black Angus, and Simmental females. The farm utilizes advanced artificial insemination techniques, embryo transfer, carcass ultrasound technology, and phenotypic selection as a means of continually advancing herd genetics. The Beef Division backgrounds weaned calves before selectively entering the feed out phase or being developed as replacement animals. Further, Fort Hays is growing partnerships with area producers to provide students with a well-rounded educational program.
