In the early 1980’s the Friends of Cortes Island initiated several projects including securing ownership and community stewardship for Turtle Island (located in the middle of Hague Lake). The Salmon Enhancement Society and the Cortes Craft Shop also received set up help.. . By 1990 FOCI became an incorporated society and achieved charitable tax status in 1991.
