Detailed description is Giant Steps and the English Montreal School Board have collaborated to create a full time day program for adults with autism. Giant Steps and the English Montreal School Board have collaborated to create a full time day program for adults with autism. The program is located at the Marymount Adult Centre and began operation in September 2015. The program has been specifically created for individuals with autism, and the goal is to provide a calm, structured and supportive environment where students can learn new skills, explore their interests and develop autonomy and techniques for self regulation. Most of the students have been out of structured learning systems for a number of years and have required time and guidance to acclimatize to the new setting but all have responded very well.. . The program is open to all adults with autism, not just former Giant Steps Students, and the intention is now to gradually increase the number of participants, ensuring that they fit in well with the current group. Most of the students have limited verbal skills but each of them has demonstrated unique strengths and abilities which can clearly be developed and refined under the right circumstances..
