Detailed description is A traditional blacksmith shop that recreates the time period of 1885-1910. Custom tool making and historical reproductions.The shop is run by Doug Swenson. Goose Prairie Forge is operated by Doug Swenson, who has been interested in hot ironwork for over forty years. He started experimenting with shaping hot iron in the early 70s, because of the lack of teaching resources in the area, most of his education came from trial and error and later old blacksmithing books. He has been formally operating his own shop for 12 years. In recent years he has developed an interest in teaching others and now offers classes in traditional blacksmithing at the shop.. Goose Prairie Forge has its origins in a small farm blacksmith shop operated by Doug's great-grandfather, who settled in Goose Prairie Township in the late 1880s. Today the shop tries to reproduce this period of time, as the tools and equipment used in the shop are authentic to this time frame, as are the work methods. Doug's special interests include tool making, historic reproductions, and custom design ironwork.
